B i o g r a p h y
Hello. I'm David M. Lines, a professional church organist and concert performer with over 45 years experience. It has been my honor to play and record on some most remarkable organs around the U.S. You can hear me play every Sunday at Lutheran Church of our Savior in San Bernadino, California. You can also find many of my recordings — new and old — wherever you stream music.
EDUCATION
M.M. DEGREE in ORGAN PERFORMANCE AND LITERATURE, University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Indiana 1988. Studies in organ, conducting, history, and analysis. Full scholarship and paid Graduate Assistant duties including teaching piano to non-majors.
B.M. DEGREE in ORGAN PERFORMANCE AND LITERATURE, Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah 1985. Studies in organ, sound recording, conducting, composition, history, orchestration, theory, and oboe. Extensive concertizing throughout the state. Half to full scholarships and paid assistantship.
EXPERIENCE
ORGANIST/PIANIST, First United Methodist Church of Riverside, CA. August 2016 to present. Serves as part of an equal group music leadership including myself, the choir director, the handbell director and the praise team leaders. Plays piano and organ for services and accompanies the choir and soloists as well as combined groups. Improvisation as necessary to extend or trim pieces. Excellent sight-reading ability, playing from lead-sheets, and some arranging and re-harmonization.
ORGANIST/PIANIST, St. Mark Presbyterian Church, Newport Beach, CA. October 2013 to July 2016. Collaborating with all staff, especially the Music Director and Handbell Director to create a wide variety of musical styles and moods. Cheerfully accompanies choirs and instrumentalists. Alternate handbell ringer.
PARISH ORGANIST, St. Mary Magdalen Parish, Everett, WA. July 2010 to September 2013. Play and improvise appropriate keyboard music for 3-5 weekend masses. Accompany Loft Choir and Saturday Schola. Coordinate with instrumental soloists, cantors, and pianist. Lead rehearsals and run soundboard in absence of director.
ORGANIST/COORDINATOR, Bellevue First Congregational Church, Bellevue, WA. July 2007 to June 2010. Similar to above but with many more member instrumentalists to schedule, encourage, and accompany.
ORGANIST/PIANIST, University Unitarian Church, Seattle, Washington. September 2006 to Aug. 2007. Big classical music program presenting works such as Bach’s B-minor Mass with full orchestra and harpsichord. Accompany 4 paid soloists, instrumentalists, talent show, annual Messiah sing-a-long. Fulfill Loft Choir librarian duties. Schedule and accompany instrumentalists in services. Occasional directing of sectional rehearsals.
PARISH ORGANIST, Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Edmonds, Washington. September 2002 to 2006. Played organ and piano at four weekend masses for 2000+ attendees. Accompanied Senior Choir, Contemporary Choir, Cantors, School Honor Choir and special concerts with orchestra such as Faure's Requiem. Improvisatory skills with Contemporary Band.

ORGANIST/DIRECTOR OF MUSIC, Woodland Park Presbyterian Church, Seattle, Washington. September 2000 to August 2002.
SEATTLE LESBIAN AND GAY CHORUS PIANIST, September 2000 to August 2002. Accompanied concerts, cabaret shows, and Gilbert & Sullivan productions. Played piano for "The Fantasticks"
ORGANIST/MINISTER OF MUSIC, First Presbyterian Church, Salt Lake City, Utah. 1989 to 2000. DIrected and accompanied adult choir; established and directed two bell choirs, played keyboards with praise band and instrumental groups. Heavy interaction with a wide variety of community and member musicians facilitating a broad range of musical styles.
ORGANIST, Congregation Kol Ami, Salt Lake City, Utah. October 1988 to February 2000. Collaborated with the cantor or instrumentalists in presenting music of varied and colorful styles for Friday evening reform services and High Holidays. Adapted and played all keyboard scores to the synagogue organ.
GUEST ORGANIST, The Mormon Tabernacle, Salt Lake City, Utah. 1982-1983. 25-minute recitals aimed to please the general public and tourists.
UNIVERSITY OF UTAH, UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA. Involvement in music soundtracks/performances for television and theater 1991-2002.
